Description
BEC is our decaf espresso blend, built from three origins for a rich, velvety shot with none of the caffeine. The name is a wink at the bacon, egg, and cheese, because this is the cup that belongs next to breakfast, morning or night.
TypeDecaf Espresso Blend ComponentsBrazil, Ethiopia, Colombia ProcessDecaffeinated RoastCity+ Built ForEspresso & Milk Drinks The SourceThree origins, no caffeine, no compromise
BEC stands for the three coffees in the blend. Brazil brings the chocolate-and-nut foundation and smooth body that anchor the cup, the same Brazilian character behind our Brazil Cerrado. Ethiopia adds aromatic florals and a fruity lift that keep the blend from going flat. Colombia supplies balance and a clean, bright structure from its high-altitude farms, the profile you taste in our Colombia Supremo.
Each origin is selected for what it contributes to a decaf, where there is nowhere to hide a dull bean. We source the green coffee and roast it; the decaffeination is handled upstream by specialists. Think of BEC as the decaf counterpart to our caffeinated BCB espresso blend, built to the same standard for anyone cutting back without giving up the ritual.
The CraftDecaf that still tastes like espresso
Decaf has a reputation for being thin and papery, and most of that comes from careless roasting. Decaffeinated beans roast faster and darker than they look, so they are easy to scorch. We roast BEC to City+ at our Virginia Beach roastery, watching it closely to develop the chocolate and caramel and pull a real crema without tipping into the burnt, hollow flavor that gives decaf its bad name. The three components draw on different processing styles to layer body, sweetness, and brightness into one balanced shot.
The result is an espresso blend that holds its own pulled straight and carries through milk, so a decaf cappuccino at night tastes like the real thing because, minus the caffeine, it is.
Milk Chocolate Caramel Citrus Brown Sugar Body Medium Acidity Mild-Bright The CupVelvety, chocolatey, and caffeine-free
Pulled as espresso, BEC leads with milk chocolate and caramel over a brown-sugar sweetness, with a subtle citrus lift from the Ethiopian component keeping it from feeling heavy. The body is smooth and velvety and the finish is clean. Add milk and the chocolate carries straight through a latte or cappuccino. It is the cup for the second espresso of the evening, the one you want for flavor and ritual rather than a jolt, and it pairs as well with a breakfast sandwich as its name promises.
Find Your FixBEC is built for espresso: start around a 1:2 ratio in 27 to 30 seconds and adjust the grind, remembering that decaf often wants a slightly finer setting. It shines under milk in lattes and cappuccinos and makes an excellent moka pot or Aeropress cup when you want espresso intensity without a machine. For a caffeine-free iced option, it turns into a smooth, chocolatey cold brew. Browse the rest of our coffee beans and find your fix.
