Heart of the Gedeo Zone

Konga sits in the core of the Gedeo Zone, that narrow plateau section where Yirgacheffe coffee developed its legendary reputation. Like most of the region, coffee here comes from hundreds of smallholders farming tiny garden plots, who deliver ripe cherry to a local washing station where lots are collected, sorted, and processed together.

The terroir defines the cup: volcanic soil rich in minerals, abundant highland springs, and elevations where thin air and cool temperatures extend cherry maturation. These conditions create the foundation for floral complexity that processing later reveals.

The Craft

Washed: Yirgacheffe's Foundation

Cherries picked at peak ripeness arrive at washing stations fresh. Depulped within hours to remove fruit skin, beans ferment in clean water for one to three days, enough time to remove all mucilage, not long enough to develop fermented off-notes. Multiple rinses wash everything clean, then beans spread across raised beds to dry under highland sun.

This meticulous wet processing creates sparkling clarity and tea-like body, the signature Yirgacheffe profile. You taste the terroir without interference, the floral aromatics without fruit masking. We roast it to City+, a light touch that protects the delicate aromatics.

Floral Citrus Apricot Black Tea Body Light Acidity Bright The Cup

Classic Elegance

Floral aromatics rise first, gentle but present, announcing Yirgacheffe character immediately. Citrus brightness (lemon and orange) opens the palate, providing acidic lift that wakes up your morning. Apricot sweetness follows, adding fruit character without jammy heaviness. Black tea tannins in the finish provide structure and that Earl Grey quality. The light body floats, letting delicate flavors shine without crowding. This is Yirgacheffe doing what it does best.

Find Your Fix

Pour-over is essential, V60 or Chemex at 1:16 ratio with water at 200-203F brings full floral clarity. The light body and bright acidity need paper filtration to shine. This coffee also makes excellent cold brew, steep 16 hours for crisp, refreshing citrus delivery that's perfect for warm weather. Browse the rest of our coffee beans and find your fix.
